Risk assessment model selection in construction industry
نویسندگان
چکیده
Construction industry faces a lot of inherent uncertainties and issues. As this industry is plagued by risk, risk management is an important part of the decision-making process of these companies. Risk assessment is the critical procedure of risk management. Despite many scholars and practitioners recognizing the risk assessment models in projects, insufficient attention has been paid by researchers to select the suitable risk assessment model. In general, many factors affect this problem which adheres to uncertain and imprecise data and usually several people are involved in the selection process. Using the fuzzy TOPSIS method, this study provides a rational and systematic process for developing the best model under each of the selection criteria. Decision criteria are obtained from the nominal group technique (NGT). The proposed method can discriminate successfully and clearly among risk assessment methods. The proposed approach is demonstrated using a real case involving an Iranian construction corporation. 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The unavailability of sufficient data and uncertainty in modeling, some techniques, and decision-making processes play a significant role in many engineering and management problems. Attain to sure solutions for a problem under accurate consideration is essential. In this paper, an application of fuzzy inference system for modeling the indeterminacy involved in the problem of HSE risk assessm...
متن کاملDetermining Optimal Risk Assessment Model in Construction Projects (Case study: steel plant construction project)
Introduction: Identifying occupational hazards and managing occupational safety and health risks is the most important mission and responsibility of the health and safety management system in organizations and adopting coded plans to achieve this is the key to continuously improving this system and promoting it. Method: This descriptive-analytic research has been written to determine the optim...
متن کاملMULTI-OBJECTIVE OPTIMIZATION OF TIME-COST-SAFETY USING GENETIC ALGORITHM
Safety risk management has a considerable effect on disproportionate injury rate of construction industry, project cost and both labor and public morale. On the other hand time-cost optimization (TCO) may earn a big profit for project stakeholders. This paper has addressed these issues to present a multi-objective optimization model to simultaneously optimize total time, total cost and overall ...
متن کاملDeveloping a conceptual model based upon the Latin Hypercube Sampling for integrating OHS into project risk evaluation
Abstract Project management in construction industry, in many cases, is imperfect with respect to the integration of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) risks. This imperfection exhibits itself as complications affecting the riskiness of industrial procedures and is illustrated usually by poor awareness of OHS within project teams. Difficulties on OHS regularly came about in the construction i...
متن کاملAn Integrated Risk-Based Technique for Project Plan Selection
Selecting an effective project plan is a significant area in the project management. The present paper introduces a technique to identify the project plan efficient frontier for assessing the alternative project plans and selecting the best plan. The efficient frontier includes two criteria: the project cost and the project time. Besides, the paper presents a scheme to incorporate Directed Ac...
